Essentials For Travelling With Children

June 12, 2017

Whether you’re travelling around the world or to a holiday destination nearby, you’ll want to make sure that your holiday is as simple and pleasant as possible. We all love family breaks, but they can be stressful to plan and arrange, and forgetting to pack an essential item can start things off on the wrong foot.

Here at Trabolgan Holiday Village, we’re experts in fantastic family holidays and we’ve got something to make everyone smile. Here are our top tips on what to pack to ensure you get to your holiday destination with less stress, and get your trip off to a good start.

Pack The Items You Really Need When You Travel With Children

  1. Snacks. There’s nothing like hunger to turn a chilled out child into a monster! Prevent the hunger blues by packing plenty of different snacks (they’ll never all want the same snack at the same time, of course!) or pack each child a snack box to ensure that all the treats are shared out fairly.
  2. Water. Staying hydrated is always vital, but when you’re on holiday in hot weather, it’s really important to remember to drink plenty. A good tip is to freeze water in plastic bottles the night before you travel or spend a day exploring. They’ll stay cool for longer, melting as you go and avoiding the need to bring ice packs as well!
  3. Audio books. Keeping the kids entertained is an important way to keep a journey harmonious, and an audio book can be the ideal way to engage everyone. Choose a classic children’s story to listen to together, or let the children take turns to pick their favourite. These are ideal for quiet moments in your holiday accommodation or for helping tired children get to sleep, as well.
  4. Pillows. If your kids sleep while you travel, you’ll probably arrive at your destination much less stressed. It’s hard to get comfortable in a car or on a plane or train, however, so be sure to pack some pillows and even a comforting blanket to make it easier for them to snuggle up.
  5. First aid kit. You should always carry the basics with you, wherever you go, such as sticking plasters and antiseptic wipes. Bear in mind that liquids may not be allowed in your hand luggage if you’re travelling by air, and ensure that you take a couple of spare carrier bags, too, so that you can cope with sudden sickness!
  6. Patience. Are you prepared for the trip? It will make a big difference to your stress levels if you’re calm and collected before you start, so don’t allow yourself to leave the house feeling that you are at the end of your tether. It is tricky to organize a family holiday, but everyone will enjoy it much more if you can remain grounded.
