DIY Christmas: How To Make A Christmas Wreath

December 12, 2016

Here at Trabolgan Holiday Village, we’re really looking forward to Christmas! We like to make the most of the season, and we love to share our favourite ideas with our guests. We’ve been thinking about festive wreaths, and how to create the perfect example for your home this year. Try one of the following ideas to bring some Christmas cheer to your front door!

 Christmas Wreath Ideas To Try:

1. Willow wreath. If you know a keen gardener, you will almost certainly be able to pick up some willow sticks for free. These can be easily worked into a circle, and using three or four to create a willow ring will give you a base into which you can weave seasonal greenery, berries and even pine cones if you wish. Here’s how:

Making A Willow Wreath

  • Working with one willow stick, gently bend it around and weave it into itself to create a circle.
  • Add another willow stick, weaving it around the first to make a stronger ring. Repeat with one or two more willow sticks
  • Select some ivy, or other seasonal greenery, and use this to wrap the willow circle, weaving it in and out of the willow if possible, or using florist’s wire to secure.
  • Using florist’s wire, twist berries into the circle to add colour to your wreath.
  • Add pinecones and slices of orange that have been dehydrated in the oven for extra interest, and tie with a red ribbon to create a hook to hang on your front door.
  • Sit back and enjoy the compliments!

2. Contemporary wreath. You can buy or make a wire base for your Christmas wreath quite easily, and then get creative with beads or fairy lights for a stylish, unique look. Pick a theme colour, such as silver and white, and then embellish your wreath with glass crystal beads and silver wire.

3. Cardboard wreath. For a truly child friendly option, take a cardboard circle and let the kids loose with the glue and some decorations. Try pompoms, for a very effective way to decorate an indoor wreath, or coloured tissue paper, for a multi-coloured effect that will look great in the window.

4. Bauble wreath. If you’ve updated your Christmas tree decorations and been left with a selection of old baubles, an inventive way to make the most of these is to glue them together to make an extra special Christmas wreath. Superglue should hold them firmly in a circle, and you could even add a little tinsel for some extra festive sparkle!
