Dive in! Making the most out of your time in the pool

April 4, 2018

Love swimming but tired of ploughing up and down lanes? Staying motivated is important in the quest to keep fit. It helps to vary your swim routine: swim on your back, on your side, organise swimming races with friends, take a dip in the sea. If you’re looking to change -up your pool experience, we have three fun ideas to choose from.

Aqua Aerobics; is aerobic exercise in shallow water, perfect for the pool. Water aerobics differs to land exercise in that it adds the component of water resistance. Although heart rate does not increase as much as in land-based aerobics, the heart is working just as hard and underwater exercise actually pumps more blood to the heart.

Volleyball: Pick up an inexpensive inflatable ball at your local toy store; this game is fun to play in the water with friends.

Ping Pong: Ping Pong balls make a really enjoyable and inexpensive addition to any pool. You can draw numbers on them and have two teams try to collect the highest ‘points’ by adding the totals of the balls.

Swimming is a good all-round body workout, it’s easy on the joints, suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Plus, being immersed in water has endless mental health benefits.
