Our Top Tips For Keeping Kids Happy On Long Journeys
March 28, 2017Whether you’re visiting us at Trabolgan Holiday Village or taking a long haul flight to another continent, a family holiday inevitably means making a journey with your children. Travelling with children is often the subject of comedy sketches, and the ‘are we there yet?’ moment will be familiar to most parents, but if you’re stuck in a car or plane with your little darlings, the reality can be anything but funny.
We would love for all of our guests to arrive in good time, after a calm and peaceful journey, but we know that this is not always possible. Once you arrive, you’ll have plenty of time to relax in your well-equipped accommodation, or take a restorative dip in the paradise pool, but we hope that these tips will help to make the journey itself more pleasant.
Our Top Tips For Keeping Kids Happy On Long Journeys:
- Play games together. A long journey in the car doesn’t have to be hellish, but could be a good opportunity to start the holiday bonding time together. Take turns to choose a game such as I spy, 20 questions or license plate spelling, and you’ll find that the journey will fly by.
- Make use of technology. There’s a time and a place for everything, and we think long journeys could be the ideal time for technology! Charge up those tablets and let the kids plug in for a while and, you never know, you might even be able to hold a conversation or listen to the radio as you drive!
- Prepare for disaster. We all hope that our journeys will run smoothly, but if they don’t, failure to prepare can make things really tricky. Ensure you’ve packed enough water and snacks for long delays and hold ups, and make sure that you’ve got the number of your garage or breakdown cover company on hand in case you need it.
- Make it fun. Make the most of the journey time to listen to your favourite audio books, and take turns to choose a story, or pick a series the whole family loves and enjoy it together as you travel.
- Take tempting treats. If you have very young children, and you have to take a long car journey or flight, it can help to have a few exciting items up your sleeve to brighten up the journey. Simple items are much more fun if they’re wrapped individually, and they’ll entertain the kids for longer, too
