Family Holidays Without Stress
August 3, 2018Holidays are meant to be the most relaxing time of the year, but when you’re travelling with children, things can get stressful. Here’s our guide to reducing the stress as you prepare for your holiday and while you are away, so you can enjoy a really relaxing break.
Tips To Reduce Stress On Family Holidays
- Plan ahead. Preparing yourself ahead of time can help you to enjoy a more relaxing holiday. If you have all the paperwork you need printed out and easily accessible, you will not have to worry about remembering essentials such as your passports, tickets and accommodation details. Most of these things can be stored on your phone and this can leave you free to concentrate on other details.
- Keep things in perspective. Don’t let every little detail frustrates you, as family fallouts can happen over the silliest things. If someone has forgotten an essential item, or needs to eat immediately, tempers can easily begin to fray. However, if you can deal with each situation calmly and rationally, you are much more likely to maintain a pleasant atmosphere and enjoy your break.
- Take turns. Holidays with children can be frustrating if one person makes all the decisions, leaving others feeling as though they they do not have an opportunity to do what they want to do. Take turns choosing activities and places to visit, and create a rough itinerary so that everyone feels that they have had some input and you can all look forward to the days ahead.
- Consider your routine. When you are on holiday, it is sometimes difficult to stick to routine, and this can be difficult for small children who are used to eating and sleeping at certain times. You may find that it works better if you keep their routine similar to the routine you use at home, or you may find that they cope well with a more relaxed routine while you are away, in which case, you can relax and enjoy a slower pace.
- Let it go. If you are are always responsible for organising things for your family, take the time to relax while you are away and do not feel you need to control everything. Stepping back and letting others organise things and take responsibility for different elements of the holiday will give you a chance to recover from the stress and enjoy your break, and you may be surprised by how well others cope with taking more responsibility for themselves.
