Outdoor Activities For Kids

April 19, 2018

Children love to play outside, and there’s no better way to improve their moods, inspire their creativity and get them moving. There are many ways to encourage your children to take part in outdoor activities, and we hope that our list of favourites will give you some great ideas this Spring.

Here at Trabolgan, we have a great choice of outdoor activities for kids, including several playgrounds and an exciting mini golf course. However, if the weather forces you to take cover, you can still burn off energy and have a great time in our fabulous swimming complex and enjoy our great range of indoor activities and entertainment.

Our Favourite Outdoor Activities For Kids:

1. Set up a scavenger hunt. A scavenger hunt is a good way to get to know your surroundings, and it’s a very easy activity to set up for the kids. You can start with a basic list of items to find, such as ‘something green’, ‘something round’ or ‘a feather’, or you can challenge kids to fill a matchbox with as many tiny items as possible and have fun counting them up to see who has collected the most.

2. Try a new sport. Whether you’re getting involved in a new team sport or trying out a solitary pursuit such as cycling or running, exercise is a great way to enjoy the outdoors. Ideas that will keep all the family entertained include mini golf, sailing and climbing.

3. Go hiking. Children often say they hate walking, but if they get into the habit at a young age, they’ll develop a lifelong love of exploring the countryside and hiking in the fresh air. Set some family challenges, such as wildlife spotting or walking a greater distance each month, or try geo-caching and let the kids navigate to ensure they don’t lose interest.

4. Get planting. Growing your own food is an amazing skill to develop at a young age, and learning about the growing process can be great fun. Whether you have a vegetable plot or just a few pots or a window box, you’ll be able to grow an interesting and delicious variety of crops and there’s more chance of the children trying new foods if they’ve grown them for themselves!

5. Ride a bike. Cycling is an excellent form of exercise that the whole family can enjoy together, as even the smallest children can be taken along in child seats or trailers. If you’ve never been cycling as a family before, you may find that hiring bikes and helmets is the best way to try this out – perhaps while you are on holiday – so that you know what to look for when purchasing your own.
