Nature Craft Ideas For All The Family

August 17, 2018

Crafting with your children can be great fun for you as well as for them, and many parents discover crafty talents they didn’t know they had when they let their imaginations run wild! Nature offers an abundance of beautiful materials for crafting, and we’ve found some wonderful ways to make the most of it in your projects.

Here at Trabolgan Holiday Village, it’s all about family fun. We’ve got a great range of activities and an entertainment programme you’ll love, but we’ve always got plenty of ideas for quieter moments, too. Here are our favourite nature craft ideas, we hope you enjoy trying them out!

5 Nature Craft Ideas We Love

  1. Paint rocks. Rocks from the seashore offer a beautiful surface to paint onto, and children and adults of all ages can enjoy decorating them in style. There are several groups on social media dedicated to painting and hiding rocks for others to find, so you could even discover a new hobby with this craft idea.
  2. Leaf mandalas. A mandala is a beautiful circular pattern that is said to represent the universe in Eastern symbolism. You can create your own masterpiece by gathering beautiful leaves, flowers and other natural materials, and laying them out to create a circle of nature patterns. Don’t forget to take a photograph!
  3. Weaving. Weaving is a useful and very relaxing skill, and you can use many different materials in nature to do this. Try weaving long grass through some straight sticks, or weaving a square with reeds or willow twigs. If this inspires you, you may want to pursue it by learning more about the art of weaving or basketmaking.
  4. Mud faces. This is a great craft idea for young children, especially if they’re puddle jumping in the rain! Simply gather up handfuls of mud and use it to sculpt a face shape on a nearby tree before adding features using leaves, seeds or other materials from the ground. This is a great excuse to get messy, and the pleasure is all in the process!
  5. Fairy houses. You can bring a little magic to your day with this craft activity, and children of all ages will love to join in. Gather some natural materials such as twigs, leaves, pine cones and acorns and use them to create a dwelling for the fairies to live in when you’ve gone home. Let your imaginations go all out to make a really inspiring tiny home for the magic folk!
